Summary of the Job
The Business Analyst (BA) is responsible for ensuring that technical planning and implementation of enterprise level internal systems/software platforms and associated data and reporting deliverables meet internal operational process and workflow needs and, ultimately, client business execution and reporting objectives. The BA is accountable for eliciting and documenting functional and technical systems specifications, whether for enhancements to a DWA-built/owned system or effective utilization of off-the-shelf software solutions DWA is licensing from a third party. Additionally, the BA has an understanding of system design and database structure and as such, can clearly synthesize data and configuration requirements. The Business Analyst has strong project management skills and superior attention to detail, facilitation abilities, and technical writing skills. The BA is able to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical users and collaborate across multiple stakeholder groups to understand and document comprehensive specifications, utilizing SDLC methodology.
Serve as liaison between business needs and technology resources to ensure enterprise systems, along with related data, processes, workflows, and reports remain relevant, efficient, and effective for both internal users and external clients
Partner effectively with multiple stakeholder groups to facilitate needs assessments and requirements discussions to elicit, synthesize, and accurately document business requirements and strategically translate these into relevant system/technical requirements
Communicate clearly between business/project stakeholders and technical team members (architects, application developers, software engineers, database administrators, etc) to devise appropriate solutions in the form of system additions/enhancements (including user interface mockups), data and configuration specifications, process and workflow design within and between systems, and reporting specifications
Analyze and validate that system/technical requirements will satisfy stakeholder needs and client outcomes, collaborating closely with users, technical team members, and third party software providers and facilitating applicable review sessions
Partner closely with the Technology Client Services team on project implementation and configuration efforts that require the involvement of an enterprise system (and its data and workflows) in conjunction with a client-facing product or custom deliverable, in the form of requirements input, data mapping, etc
Utilize established Project Management and Software Development Lifecycle methodologies and applicable corporate software/tools (eg, TFS) to document and manage requirements
Partner closely with quality assurance staff to effectively transfer/interpret requirements specifics and data mapping/configuration details as it relates to enabling effective writing of test cases and relevant staging of test data
Contribute to system testing as needed, in conjunction with quality assurance staff, as well as application developers/software engineers throughout the defect resolution process
Prepare necessary instructional system documentation as well as associated training documentation
Contribute to system training and launch as needed, in conjunction with business/project stakeholders, training department experts, and third party software providers, through deliverables such as screenshots, data staging, system usage documentation, etc
Serve as primary owner of user support for various systems, by way of assisting users with questions/requests/issues, data loads, configuration/setup, etc
Work occasional nonstandard work hours as workload demands
This position may require minimum overnight/weekend travel associated with client needs assessments and/or systems launch/training
Help to create standard operating procedures and process documentation for technology services and related cross-functional workflows
Liaise with technology management to ensure adherence to and consistency within implementing technical projects according to SDLC
Education and Experience
BS or BA required
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a technical business analyst on software products, database configuration and reporting, or custom technology deliverables
Experience with requirement elicitation and facilitation techniques required
Project management experience strongly desired
Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) trained, certification preferred
Working knowledge of business analysis fundamentals and best practices, based on those recommended by the International Institute of Business Analysis
Working knowledge of database
Microsoft TFS experience is a plus
ETL, SQL, and data analytics skills are a plus
Understanding of DWA business environment and technology systems interrelation is a plus
Experience working in DWA cross-functional team environment is a plus
