Research Assistant, Chemistry

Agios has two approved oncology precision medicines and multiple first-in-class investigational therapies in clinical and/or preclinical development.

Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic Research Assistant to join our growing chemistry team.  We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with demonstrated ability to learn new skills. The Research Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks that enable the daily operation of the chemistry lab. Some of the key tasks include compound purification (HPLC, MPLC), maintenance of the chemical reagent inventory and lab instrumentation, and procurement of commercial compounds for biochemical and biological testing. This position has the potential for growth as the needs of our expanding chemistry team increase.

Key Responsibilities

  • Purification of reaction intermediates and final target compounds
  • Support medicinal chemists with the sourcing and procurement of reagents for chemical reactions and commercial compounds required for biological testing
  • Maintain chemistry lab supplies and reagent inventory using our in-house inventory system
  • Collaborate with medicinal chemists and compound managers to facilitate the registration and shipping of final target compounds 

Minimum Requirements

  • A.S in chemistry with 2+ years lab experience or B.S in chemistry
  • Experience with small molecule purification using HPLC
  • Highly proficient with common software programs (Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, ChemDraw)
  • Ability to think critically, learn new skills and adapt prior experience to the task at hand
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

Preferred Requirements

  • Prior experience with Laboratory Inventory Management System (LIMS) software is a plus
  • Experience developing HPLC methods is a plus
  • Experience in a synthetic chemistry lab is preferred
