Overview of the Opportunity

At WSP our Geotechnical Mining Services team are providing geotechnical expertise with niche clients in the mining sector to position WSP as a leader in the market. We're looking for an established Senior Engineer with a specialization in Rock Mecahnics to join our Geotechnical Mining team at to be based in either our Kingston, or Ottawa offices.

What you can expect to do here:

  • You'll be providing geotechnical design deliverables, within the context of overall rock mechanics purposes for surface and underground mines and other civil rock infrastructures (rock cuts, tunnels, etc.) as well as technical management and direction of site investigations and reviewing technical reports;
  • You'll operate as a senior advisor or reviewer for geotechnical engineering analyses of slope stability, underground infrastructure stability, design of ground support in collaboration with the team;
  • You'll be a key participant in proposal efforts, and will also provide coaching and mentoring for more junior staff across Canada;
  • You'll be asked to assist with or provide client development and new business opportunity support within a national framework, and keep focused on continuing to establish WSP as a leader through participation in conferences (national or international, e.g. PDAC);
  • You'll develop thought leadership pieces through participation in and preparation of scientific/technical articles for technical conferences in geotechnics and rock mechanics;
  • Other tasks that may be required as a senior member of the team.

What you'll bring to WSP:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, geological engineering or mine engineering with academic specialization or geotechnical practice
  • Graduate degree in Geotechnics (nice to have);
  • Advanced experience with geotechnical engineering and rock mechanics (20+ years) both in underground and open-pit environments;
  • Expertise in range of rock/soil mechanics problems and mining geotechnical engineering practices, as well as a range of mining methods;
  • High level of proficiency in a geotechnical software packages e.g. DIPS®, Slope-W®, Slide®, Unwedge®, RS2®, RS3®, Map3D®, Flac®, Plaxis®.
  • Knowledge of micro-seismic engineering (nice to have);
  • Good field experience related to the geotechnical design of open pit and underground mines and fie;d experience related to the geotechnical design for non-mining infrastructures in rock (ex.: rock cuts, tunnels, etc.);
  • Autonomy, team spirit and leadership;
  • Valid Driver's license;
