BROCKVILLE | KINGSTON

At WSP our Geotechnical Mining Services team are providing geotechnical expertise with niche clients in the mining sector to position WSP as a leader in the market. We're looking for an emerging geotechnical engineer with some experience (one or two years) to join the Geotechnical Mining team and to be located at either our Brockville or Kingston offices.

What you can expect to do here:

  • You'll support engineers carrying out projects requiring geotechnical work: investigations, dike design and construction, slope stabilization, etc.;
  • You'll develop geotechnical investigation programs, prepare bidding documents, solicit bids, evaluate subcontractor submissions and support project engineers as part of their mandate;
  • You will participate in the preparation of geotechnical study and engineering reports and be encouraged to share your opinion when formulating recommendations on various geotechnical aspects in projects, based on studies and project-specific work;
  • You'll be responsible for the assessment of the bearing capacity of soils for various types of shallow and deep foundations as well as for retaining wall stability;
  • You'll support the project team in questioning the various geotechnical issues encountered, such as: slope stabilization, settlements, liquefaction potential, interstitial overpressure development, preferential flow, frost heave, excavation and backfilling procedures, etc.;
  • You'll support field operations through supervision and monitoring of boreholes, in situ tests, piezocone soundings, reconnaissance trenches, as well as miscellaneous construction work such as granular embankment dikes and installation. geosynthetics, etc.;
  • You'll conduct stability analyzes in surface infrastructure development concepts such as dikes and waste rock dump;
  • You may be required to perform other tasks as part of your role in the team.

What you'll bring to WSP:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, geological engineering, mining engineering or geotechnical engineering with a few years of experience in the field;
  • Registered as an EIT or working towards a designation;
  • Knowledge of specialized geotechnical software including GeoStudio or Rocscience suites;
  • Sense of initiative, attention to detail, team spirit;
