WSP is currently seeking a qualified individual to join our team in the capacity of Geologist in Training or Engineer in Training, specializing in Hydrogeology and Water Resources Management. We currently have opportunities in one or more of the following offices:  Dartmouth (NS), Fredericton (NB), or Moncton (NB).  The successful candidate will help to deliver existing water resource, mine development and contaminated sites projects in Atlantic Canada. Ideally, as Junior Hydrogeologist with WSP, you will bring academic and/or work experience directly related to water resource development and protection. You will also be capable of adapting your experience to projects related to watershed assessments, flood risk mapping and contaminated sites management. This role offers a variety of work including office based work and field based work, as required.

What you can expect to do here:

  • You will be collaborating with environmental and engineering teams to deliver high quality products to clients;
  • You will be completing background documentation reviews;
  • You'll conduct field investigations including soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water sampling;
  • You will eversee drilling and excavation contractors;
  • You will conduct management of water, soil, sediment quality data;
  • You'll provide input to the development of conceptual hydrogeological models;
  • You will complete data analysis which may include hydraulic conductivity tests, pump tests, water balance and geochemical modeling;
  • You may be assisting in hydrogeological interpretations and groundwater-surface water interactions;
  • You'll support in the preparation of reports following scientific principles with clear and concise presentation of information in a manner that can be understood by the general public;
  • You may be assisting in the preparation of proposals;
  • You will be actively participating in health and safety programs; and,
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you'll bring to WSP: 

  • Your Masters degree specializing in Geosciences, Hydrogeology, Engineering or related discipline; or Bachelor degree specializing in Geosciences, Hydrogeology, Engineering or related discipline; 
  • 1 - 3 years previous applicable work experience;
  • Your eligibility for registration as a Geologist in Training or Engineer in Training in Nova Scotia and/or New Brunswick;
  • Your demonstrated experience conducting investigations and related reporting;
  • Your knowledge and experience in field practices such as drilling, well completions, well testing, site characterizations, and monitoring programs;
  • Your demonstrated experience utilizing GIS for geospatial analyses is considered an asset;
  • Your experience in the practical application of numerical groundwater modelling programs is considered an asset;
  • Your ability to work in a fast-paced environment with flexibility to work on a variety of projects, tasks and assignments at one time, responding easily to changing priorities;
  • Your excellent English (verbal /written) communication skills;
  • Your working knowledge of Microsoft Office products;
  • You willingness to be mobile in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick, a valid driver's license, and access to a reliable vehicle.
