WSP is currently seeking a Contracts Manager to join the Buildings Business Line, and to be located at our Ottawa office.  Reporting directly to the Senior Legal Counsel this position will be responsible for managing the contractual agreements for major buildings projects, primarily in our National Capital Region.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Act as the point of contact for contractual matters on the relevant major projects contracts as well as review and liaise with internal legal counsel when required;
  • Draft, prepare, review and manage contracts, including the procurement of goods and services, Consultant Agreements and SubConsultant/Subcontractor agreements.
  • Review and provide recommendations on the terms and conditions of all standard and non-standard contracts;
  • Assist in developing processes and procedures to aid in the monitoring and management of contracts
  • Ensure the financial monitoring and control of contracts, ensuring Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality compliance is maintained;
  • Act as the point of contact for escalation or contractual matters; Identify and manage on-going and critical contractual issues on projects; may include claims management, conflicts of interest, etc.
  • Maintain contractual records and documentation accordingly;
  • Develop and implement procedures for contact management and administration in line with company policy;
  • Collaborate with Legal and Risk Management Department to coordinate Delegation of Authority submissions for approval and to coordinate contractual insurance requirements;
  • Monitor competitive terms and customer satisfaction with the terms and conditions and contracting practices. Recommend changes as required;
  • Provide guidance on contract matters to project managers and other operational staff including training on contracting practices and procedures as required;
  • Oversee Service Level Agreement Compliance;
  • Lead the contract management lifecycle process; Ensure contract close out, extension or renewal ;
  • Assure accuracy and appropriateness of contract text and attachments;
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

What you'll bring to WSP:

  • University degree in a related field (business, law or other related areas);
  • Significant experience in a similar role involving contracts management on major projects and/or alternative delivery projects;
  • Experience on large projects at a senior level working with various stakeholders;
  • Experience working with legal, risk, technical, financial and commercial advisors;
  • Experience in risk identification, allocation, and quantification for large, complex capital projects;
  • Sound knowledge of asset management practices and contract administration;
  • Sound knowledge of professional engineering services, project management services and architectural services;
  • Ability to obtain security clearances with Federal Government agencies;
  • Experience in contract administration and claims management an asset;
  • Experience in both Owner and Contractor roles an asset;
  • Proven advanced conflict and issues resolution skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, French is an asset;
  • Results-oriented and able to work in a fast paced, demanding, deadline-driven environment
  • Possess excellent analytical skills;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
