Do you have a passion for aquariums? Do you want to be a part of the foundation of the hobby, helping to bring the best fish to retailers across the country? Segrest Farms, a leading wholesaler of ornamental freshwater and marine fish based in the Tampa, FL, area, is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time inside sales representative position.

Our sales reps cultivate a network of retailers, learning what their local demographics are looking for in order to give advice on the best choices from our availability list featuring 1,500+ varieties of fish, coral, plants, and reptiles. Our ideal sales rep will almost serve as a personal shopper for the retailers they work with, helping to identify the fish that will excite each store’s customer base.

In order to best serve their retailers, sales reps need to have a strong knowledge of all aspects of the aquarium hobby. They need to understand the needs of a pet retailer as well as how to successfully keep the species we carry as a pet owner. They should be open and interested to learn the fine details of the areas of the hobby that they are less experienced in.


  • Develop new business by cold calling and prospecting independent pet retailers nationwide.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers via phone and electronic communication.
  • Perform daily assessments of all in stock items in order to communicate item-specific information including quality, sizing, and rarity to customers.
  • Enter and coordinate customer purchase orders


  • Minimum 5 years industry experience in retail pet or equivalent position with an aquatics specialty wholesaler/distributor.
  • Extensive knowledge of tropical fish species and aquarium husbandry. (minimum knowledge of 75% of our daily inventory)
  • Experience with freshwater and marine fish, reef aquaria, and reptile keeping.
  • Bilungual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Have a deeply rooted passion for the ornamental fish industry and hobby and be enthusiastic about pursuing a career with an established, industry-leading company.
  • Must have a mindset to put our team first, customer next and self last.
  • Must be willing to give full effort on sharing any & all ideas on how to get better & grow as a sales team.
  • Be detailed oriented and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Possess excellent communication skills through various channels including over the phone, through email, and on social media.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Position is entry-level base salary+ commission and performance bonuses.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
