WSP is currently seeking a Senior Project Manager – Transportation (Urban Centres) to join our team, located at our Calgary office. Reporting to the Manager, Urban Centers, this position will be working with an accomplished and diverse team of designers and draftspersons in a challenging role that offers mentorship and growth opportunities. The successful candidate will also be responsible for project management of existing and new projects, managing relationships with existing clients, developing our team, pursuing new opportunities and strengthening our market share in Calgary and Alberta Transportation.


  • Functions as senior project manager and/or as senior transportation engineer leading multi-disciplinary assignments;
  • Manages project planning, scheduling, budgeting and coordinating resources and ensures work meets corporate quality standards and client expectations;
  • Manages local staff utilization, schedule and budget; and contributes to regional goals for the same;
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships and communication with clients, stakeholders, colleagues, project teams, and internal staff at all levels;
  • Delivers reports, presentations, project documentation and project management documentation including work orders, project status reports, quality management plans and other financial control documents;
  • Foster a spirit of enthusiasm and client focus; and
  • Assist and lead business development activities in Calgary including preparation of proposals and statement of qualifications.


  • Undergraduate degree in civil engineering from an accredited university;
  • P.Eng. (Eligible for Membership with APEGA);
  • Minimum of 12 years of Transportation Engineering experience in the consulting services industry including roles with management and business development responsibilities;
  • Able to work independently as well as in groups with a demonstrated ability to manage projects, project teams, and clients;
  • Experience with urban/rural roadway design and inter-disciplinary coordination related to roadway and highway projects;
  • Familiarity with local market conditions, public and private sector client base in and around the Calgary Region and Alberta Transportation;
  • Understanding of traffic engineering principles;
  • Ability to lead and mentor other engineers / technicians;
  • Able to multi-task and meet various project deadlines;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with excellent teamwork skills;
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic with a strong desire to succeed; and
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
