The National Eye Institute (NEI) Office of Administrative Management (OAM) provides operations management and administrative support for research including services related to human resources, travel, acquisitions, property management, information technology, budget and accounting, management analysis, and workspace maintenance.  NEI/OAM plans to conduct an extensive process analysis and overhaul to increase consistency, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.  As a part of this goal, NEI/OAM will utilize Qlik software, and thus require business and technical expertise to develop and assist others developing Qlik solutions.

The QlikView SME will lead our NEI customer support in collaboration with corporate leadership and technical resources. This person will further serve as a contributor to our growing Business Process Automation Community of Practice.

Our overall corporate technology solutions emphasize the new generation of Digital Process Automation tools, include Automated Workflow Platforms, Robotic Process Automation, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Integration Platforms, Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain Distributed Ledger Technology, Cloud and Mobility Services, Digital Workforce Applications and other advanced technology solutions.

POSITION DESCRIPTION (Duties and Responsibilities):

We are looking for a seasoned, hardworking, smart and over achieving Software Engineer with specific experience and certification in QlikView.  Candidate should be passionate about using the latest tools and techniques in a development team environment to most effectively meet customer needs. Candidate must also be comfortable with providing timely professional Qlikview tier-3 help desk support directly with client, which may include senior executives.

Measures of success include anonymous help desk customer satisfaction surveys, peer and management reviews, and contribution to overall team and business success. Duties and responsibilities may include:

  • QlikView Help Desk senior technical support to client personnel,
  • Develop, assist, advise, and mentor, particularly in the use of QlikView
  • Collaborate and create new software solutions,
  • Create and deliver powerful presentations and demos that clearly communicate technical excellence,
  • Manage all technical aspects related to Qlik products


  • Proven work experience as a QlikView Engineer in a new/emerging technology field,
  • Hands-on technical proficiency in T-SQL, Jscript, Javascript and VBScript,
  • Experience creating dynamic report UI with drill-down, filter, and sort features,
  • Experience with all aspects of a report server,
  • Ability to creatively explain and present complex concepts in an easy to understand manner,
  • Solid technical background with understanding and experience in a new/emerging technology field,
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Excellent presentation and creativity skills,
  • Willingness to travel (mostly local within Metro DC/VA/MD),
  • Knowledge and experience with minimum 3 years serving Federal Government client,


  • Software development experience with teams using Agile/Scrum and SDLC,

  • Experience with Business Process Management (BPM), Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) products/services.

Education (Minimum Requirements):

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 10 years related work experience,
  • QlikView certification (Plus)
  • QlikView Training
