In 1998, FirstLine Schools started the first charter school in New Orleans.  FirstLine now operates five K-8th grade schools and a high school.   Our mission is to create and inspire great open admissions public schools in New Orleans.

Position Summary:

The Firstline Director of Extracurricular & Summer Programming is responsible for partnering with school Directors, Program Managers  and Community Partners to create, organize and implement a their vision for quality daytime, after school and summer programming - that fosters the development of students  in mind, body and spirit. The Director provides general oversight and reviews operations of all extracurricular, after-school and summer programs for FirstLine Schools.

 

In addition to, the Director of Extracurricular & Summer Programming supports the development of enrichment teachers by  supporting by leading PLT, ensuring excellent academic and cultural enrichment programs, and the growth and development of a highly effective volunteer program.

 

The Director of Extracurricular & Summer Programming, works in partnership with school leaders and program managers.   S/he offers general orientation and specific training; communicates regularly with teachers, partners, and volunteers; tracking teacher, partner,s and volunteer participation; and thanks all staff for their service in meaningful ways.

 

Position Responsibilities:

 

Program Management: Afterschool

  • Maintains active communication with school leadership to assess needs and ensure program quality

  • Manages and maintains  21st CCLC and other after school budgets, including ensuring hiring expenses fall within budget parameters

  • Oversees state grant compliance and c ollaborates with FLS Grant Manager to ensure expenses are promptly submitted for reimbursement through 21st CCLC or other grant funds.

  • Oversees curriculum used in afterschool programs, constantly evaluating effectiveness and teacher, partner, and volunteer needs for materials and/or training

  • Assists program managers in designing and scheduling after-school programs

  • Ensures that after school program activities are compliant with  21 Century data collection expectations and Common Core standards and aligned with evidence-based best practice for preventing  learning loss

  • Monitors program quality at all FirstLine Schools and assists program managers in management and coaching of teachers, partners, and volunteers

  • Conducts and documents frequent walkthroughs of afterschool programs to review safety and supervision of students, review program quality and focus on improvement areas

  • Oversees enrollment and attendance documentation of afterschool programs and ensures minimum targets for grant compliance are met

  • Oversees maintenance of all necessary databases to track attendance and other factors to comply with multiple organizational, state, and grant requirements

  • Ensures that after-school program activities are compliant with state and Common Core standards

  • Works with school leadership and program managers to oversee the hiring of teachers and other staff aligned to the school’s after-school budget

  • Co-facilitates teacher and subcontractor/partner training with appropriate school personnel

  • Serves as primary liaison with FirstLine Schools for all program-related administrative needs

  • Serves as consultant and mentor to program managers

  • Initiates new partnerships with community-based organizations to augment programs at all sites

  • Assists schools with ongoing communication with partner organizations

  • Collects and tracks teacher and partner participation and evaluations from all sites

  • Evaluates partner organizations' participation and makes recommendations to schools about partners' continued participation

 

Program Management: Summer

  • Maintains active communication with network and school leadership to assess needs, design summer program portfolio, and ensure program quality

  • Proposes and maintains summer budgets, including ensuring hiring expenses fall within budget parameters and expenses are promptly submitted for reimbursement through 21st CCLC or other grant funds.

  • Leads hiring of program leadership and staff

  • Coordinates appropriate leadership training and provides consistent, regular check-ins with leadership as part of the summer program planning process

  • Develops and maintains overall summer work plan; creates, transfers, and monitors summer work plan for each summer program shared with summer program leadership

  • Coordinates with communications team to create, distribute and monitor a rigorous summer recruiting and marketing plan to meet summer program enrollment targets

  • Oversees curriculum used in summer programs, constantly evaluating effectiveness and teacher, partner, and volunteer needs for materials and/or training

  • Assists program directors in designing and scheduling summer programs

  • Monitors program quality at all FirstLine Schools and assists program coordinators in management and coaching of teachers, partners, and volunteers

  • Conducts daily walkthroughs of summer programs to review safety and supervision of students and to review program quality

  • Provide Directors  and coordinators with a weekly email showing walkthrough data - providing improvement strategies

  • Oversees maintenance of all necessary databases to track attendance and other factors to comply with organizational and state requirements

  • Ensures that summer program activities are compliant and aligned with 21 Century programming data collection expectations and Common Core standards through the usage of evidence-based best practice for preventing summer learning loss

  • Works with school leadership and program managers to oversee the hiring of teachers and other staff

  • Co-facilitates teacher and subcontractor/partner training with program leadership or other appropriate school personnel

  • Serves as primary liaison with FirstLine Schools for all program-related administrative needs, including operations support (e.g, transportation, meals, facilities, data and reporting)

  • During summer program, serves as consultant and mentor to program directors

  • Initiates new partnerships with community-based organizations to augment programs at all sites

  • Assists summer programs with ongoing communication with partner organizations

  • Collects and tracks teacher and partner participation and evaluations from all sites

  • Evaluates partner organizations' participation and makes recommendations to network about partners' continued participation

 

Volunteer Management

  • Coordinates volunteers for the network office and schools, including leading on background checks

  • Oversee recruitment and placement of volunteers from community based organizations, businesses, and other sources in partnership with schools

  • Creates effective volunteer recruitment materials

  • Maintains an effective volunteer tracking database that includes skill inventories, available times, and other pertinent information

  • Monitors the collection and tracking of volunteer participation data from all sites in partnership with schools

  • Oversee volunteer evaluation process

  • Assists staff with planning end-of-semester volunteer appreciation events

Other Related Duties

  • Oversees/Supports schools during Mardi Gras season - ensuring overall marching unit safety, preparedness and contract approval support

  • Oversees implementation of Power Ties Career Awareness program at K-8 schools and maintains successful partnership with the Young Leadership Council for effective program delivery

  • Acts as Family Facilitator and monitors successful program completion of SPDG grant requirements

  • Attends two yearly 21st Century development trips (in or out-of-town)

General

  • Attends and/or conducts leadership and school staff meetings as appropriate

  • Builds relationships with the DOE 21st Century grants team

  • Builds relationships with program managers and key school personnel to assess program needs

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • Experience in project management and work stream design

  • Consulting experience preferred but not required

  • Teaching experience in high needs urban schools preferred but not required

Physical Requirements:

  -While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.

-  Light lifting of equipment may be required (up to 20 lbs.)
