About FirstLine Schools

In 1998, FirstLine Schools started the first charter school in New Orleans. FirstLine now operates five PreK-8th grade schools and a high school.  Our mission is to create and inspire great open admissions public schools in New Orleans.

Our faculty is a diverse and talented group dedicated to our students’ success and to their own growth as teachers.  Our schools are led by leaders who hold themselves accountable for student achievement and teacher development.


Position Summary:

FirstLine Schools is currently seeking  talented, enthusiastic, and passionate Library Interns in one of our Prek-8 s. This position will provide valuable work experiences for individuals preparing for careers in education, library and information science, and community outreach.

Interns will support the Network Librarian, school leadership, teachers, and students by providing assistance with research, development, promotion, and implementation of programming, and library instruction planning and policy.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Circulate books to K-8 grade students

  • Create library focused social media content

  • Receive hands on cataloging experience

  • Research and create book lists for collection development

  • Gain frontline library experience in a school setting

  • Continue developing community partnerships including working with the New Orleans Public Library

    Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

  • Applicants should be enrolled in or have completed a BS or BA (preferred), and have an interest in working with students in an urban, open admissions school.

  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills

  • Strong communication skills

  • An interest in library and information science

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Proficient in Google Suite

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.

Light lifting of equipment may be required (up to 50 lbs.)
