About FirstLine Schools

 

In 1998, FirstLine Schools started the first charter school in New Orleans.  FirstLine now operates four K-8th grade schools and a high school. Our mission is to create and inspire great open admissions public schools in New Orleans. We do this by:

Position Summary:

 

FirstLine Schools is currently looking for talented, passionate AmeriCorps Library Associates at our K-8 schools. Library Associates work with the network librarian and school staff to provide library and information services to administrators, teachers, and students. Library Associates implement formal and informal instruction in library related skills; collaborate with staff on integrating library support in classrooms; and manage resources to provide physical and intellectual access to information.



 

Position Responsibilities:

 

As such key responsibilities for Library Associates include the following:

  • Provide instruction based on site and network goals, utilizing school library curriculum and learning resources

  • Teach information literacy skills that enable students to complete instructional tasks and explore personal interests and choice

  • Provide reading and information literacy related activities to foster a love of reading

  • To coordinate, recruit volunteers, and execute a Book Fair one or twice annually including motivating scholars, and setting fundraising goals

  • Help develop site related policies, procedures, and service patterns (schedules) that provide maximum access to the library and other information resources

  • Provide a diverse collection of resources that meet site related goals and the changing needs and interests of students and staff.

  • Facilitate access to learning resources to for staff

  • Organize and maintain an attractive library media center

  • Participate in duty rotations, whole school, and grade events

  • Participate in professional growth opportunities including conferences, workshops, professional learning time, and specified curriculum-area meetings

  • Provide staff development in the uses of various information resources

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Education & Experience:

  • A High School Diploma

  • Experience working with students from open admissions charter schools (or similar public schools)

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.

  • Light lifting of equipment may be required (up to 20 lbs.)
