In 1998, FirstLine Schools started the first charter school in New Orleans. FirstLine now operates four K-8th grade schools and a high school.  Our mission is to create and inspire great open admissions public schools in New Orleans. We do this by:

About Special Educator Leader Fellowship:

Special Education Leader Fellowship (SELF) aims to improve the quality of special education programs by developing current and aspiring special education leaders and RTI coordinators through a uniquely designed 2-year Fellowship. The Fellowship provides formal training sessions, leadership coaching, professional learning communities, peer reviews and visits to exemplary programs. In doing so, SELF accelerates the development of these middle leaders to create outstanding special education programming in schools. SELF is a FirstLine program.

Position Summary

The Program Assistant is responsible for support the team in ensuring that all operational aspects of the SELF program are of the highest quality. This position will work up to eight hours a week and is part-time.  

Position Responsibilities:

Training Sessions/Principal Fellow Training Sessions/Critical Friends Group

  • Secure space for events and ensure all logistics are taken care of

  • Manage all follow up communications

  • Follow up on post-event feedback surveys

Summer Experience

  • Manage logistical needs for summer experience and manage follow up communications

  • Secure space for events and ensure all logistics are taken care of

National School Visits

  • Lead on the logistical planning for National School Visits which includes travel and transportation arrangements


  • Create marketing materials for information sessions for SELF

  • Organize office space and materials

Special Projects as needed


The successful candidate will possess a combination of passion, experience, and effectiveness. Additionally, success in this role requires exceptional self-management and a high degree of attention to detail. Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills are required.

Program Assistant reports to: SELF Operations Manager

Education & Experience

  • Experience with Microsoft suite

  • Strong project management, event planning, and administrative skills

  • Experience with on-line communications

  • Experience in K-12 education

Physical Requirements:

·       While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.

·       Light lifting of equipment may be required (up to 20 lbs.)
