Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance of the school facilities at FirstLine’s K-8 schools and high school.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responds to osTicket requests related to facility issues at schools across the FirstLine network
  • Provides on-site direction for facilities subcontractors as required
  • Ensures proper materials for all jobs are procured, either via SOMs, Director of Operations or by going directly to a vendor (SupplyWorks, Home Depot, Grainger, etc)
  • Works with operations staff to problem solve potential issues before they arise
  • Assists with setup and breakdown needs for school events
  • Proactively identifies, communicates and works to resolve safety concerns
  • Responds to maintenance needs in a timely manner
  • Organizes and keeps storage areas clean
  • Assesses facilities for repairs needed and identifies hazards or risks on grounds or in building
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of purchases made for supplies and materials related to school repairs
  • Manages supplies and materials needed to complete site based projects in a timely manner
  • Repairs, moves, assembles, installs and sets up furniture, bulletin boards, picture frames, table, chairs, etc.
  • Perform light-duty repairs when needed
  • Sands, primes and paints wood or metal
  • Uses electrical saws, sanders, drills grinders
  • Maintains, adjusts and repairs door hardware and lock sets for interior and exterior doors
  • Performs plumbing repairs on commodes, urinals, flush valves, faucets, washers, water fountains, packing and drain lines
  • Performs electrical repairs to light ballasts, light switches, receptacles, fluorescent lamp lights, exit lights, shorts in wiring and replacement of light bulbs
  • Painting classrooms, bathrooms and hallways
  • Performs preventative maintenance such as: cleaning gutters and drains, checking catch basins, cleaning sound mufflers, etc
  • Monthly grooming of turf fields utilizing golf cart and LitterKat machine

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • High school diploma
  • Three or more years experience in general commercial or institutional maintenance work, maintenance work in a school a plus
  • Knowledge of methods and materials used in school maintenance
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing and electrical work
  • Skilled in using equipment and tools of the trade
  • Effective communicator with the ability to use technology (i.e., email, spreadsheets, and documents) to explain and catalogue activities and work
  • Highly motivated by a clean and well-functioning learning environment
  • Takes initiative to solve problems and maintain a welcoming school building
  • Passion for improving educational opportunities for urban students and for building a strong, mission-driven organization

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements:

 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work off ladders to a height of 30’
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds
  • Ability to work evening and/or weekend hours when necessary
  • Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver License and ability to drive all school vehicles

 

MAINTENANCE TECH reports to: Director of Operations and works closely with the Maintenance Supervisor
