About FirstLine Schools

In 1998, FirstLine Schools started the first charter school in New Orleans.  FirstLine now operates four K-8th grade schools and a high school.  Our mission is to create and inspire great open admissions public schools in New Orleans. We do this by:

Position Summary

The REACH Program Manager is a 20-25 hour a week role with longer hours during Mardi Gras parade season. The Manager develops, coordinates, and implements the daily REACH Community Learning Center programs at the host site. The program manager is the afterschool and enrichment program liaison between the school and the students, teachers, volunteers, partner organizations, and families.  The REACH Program Manager coordinates REACH activities at the school sites, including enrichment classes, tutoring, mentoring, and special programs, and provides direct services to the children enrolled in the afterschool, enrichment, and summer programs. This includes assessing children’s needs; facilitating transitions to academic and elective classes; cultivating, training, and placing volunteers and paid staff members in classrooms and special activities; and ensuring the safety and successful participation of all served.  
 

Position Responsibilities:

Program Management

  • Oversees student participation in all REACH academic and elective classes during the school year and summer, including hiring staff, creating student schedules, and determining which students need specific instruction (with teachers)
  • Supervises all program staff, including coaching and performance monitoring
  • Collects and approves payroll records for all staff and submits to FirstLine central office as directed
  • Ensures that teachers and artists have all necessary materials and supplies
  • Creates field trips and special events, and delivers all documentation in a timely manner

Student and Family Engagement

  • Builds relationships with faculty, families, and students at host schools to provide effective services, including supporting school staff whenever possible
  • Communicates regularly with school personnel and parents/guardians to ensure successful participation for all students enrolled in the program

Community and Communications

  • Pursues and builds partnerships with the local neighborhood and larger New Orleans Community
  • Researches and coordinates opportunities for students to participates in community events such as artistic performances and civic engagement activities
  • Researches and pursues summer opportunities for students
  • Produce a bi-weekly newsletter for families

Volunteer Support

  • Keeps careful records of student, volunteer, and parent involvement and submits records in a timely manner
  • Participates in parent and community volunteer recruitment process
  • Conducts parent and community volunteer orientations and trainings at the school site
  • Supervises volunteers and conducts evaluations of volunteers, teachers, students, and parents at the school site

Education & Experience

  • Teaching or youth development experience
  • Experience managing educational programs and/or staff
  • Bachelor’s degree;  Master’s degree preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.
  •  Light lifting of equipment may be required (up to 20 lbs.)
