PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE:
Lead operations crews in the Fine Crusher and Concentrator to safely execute the operations plan on a shift-by-shift basis.
TYPICAL TASKS FOR THIS ROLE:
o Understand significant deviations from the department’s operating / maintenance plan - lead subordinates to correct and implement sustainable solutions to deviations.
o Elevate deviations to the Section Manager that cannot be corrected at Supervisor level. Plan and prioritize work assignments from the weekly work order packet on a daily basis by coordinating and communicating with operations, maintenance, scheduling personnel, and assigning daily work assignments.
o Monitor and inspect the quality of completed work assignments.
o Collaborate with other supervisors to minimize variation between shifts and implement best practices.
o Gather information from previous supervisor(s) and crew in the shift transition meeting and use this information to create a shift plan. Communicate this plan to the oncoming crew by sharing both the shift operating parameters and any special tasks required.
o Complete shift inspection of subordinates’ assigned areas and assign clean-up tasks to crew members and/or maintenance tasks to shift maintenance as identified from any out-of-standard conditions in the plant and process equipment.
o Complete work ID for Asset Management according to the standards set in the Maintenance Process Standards (MPS).
o Resource crews with skills required to meet daily department plan requirements. Assign resources to equipment based on skill sets and seniority.
o Support the Section Manager in cascading the Site Strategy down to subordinates and assist the Section Manager in the development of the Department Operating Strategies.
o Communicate the Department Operating Strategy and objectives to crews.
o Implement continual quality improvement initiatives, communicate the priority of process improvement work to subordinates and monitor that process improvement work is completed.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
o Bachelor's/Vocational degree in appropriate discipline or equivalent work experience
o At least 5 years’ experience in taconite processing or related industry preferred
o Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
o Team player with strong written and verbal communication skills
o Strong computer skills or ability to learn new skills
