Description

Alfred Benesch & Company (Benesch) is a multi-disciplined engineering and professional services firm. Benesch is consistently ranked among the top 500 consulting engineering firms in the United States by Engineering News-Record. We have immediate openings for full-time Structural Designers to be based out of our Chicago, IL or Naperville, IL office. We offer opportunities to work on a variety of complex state and local transportation projects as well as railroad projects. Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience and hold an Engineer-In-Training certification, with aspirations of obtaining PE and SE licensure.

Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Performing basic analysis of project elements
  • Performing design calculations of project elements and back checking work
  • Preparing neat and organized structural calculations
  • Designing and drafting structural elements and details for incorporation into plan sheets
  • Developing task deliverables (calculations, reports, memos) in a complete and reviewable manner
  • Performing tasks on schedule and within budget as assigned
  • Working independently under the guidance of a Senior Engineer 

Qualifications include:

  • M.S. in Structural Engineering degree or related required
  • Minimum 2 years of structural engineering/railroad experience
  • Engineer-in-Training Certification preferred, with desire to obtain PE & SE licensure

Other qualifications include:

  • Basic knowledge of building/bridge construction
  • Basic knowledge of applicable codes and standards
  • Basic knowledge of general purpose structural analysis programs (including finite element analysis)
  • Basic ability and understanding of Microstation or AutoCAD
  • Demonstrate competent use of Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written - e-mails, project memos, reports, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Positive attitude and good work ethic
