Description

Alfred Benesch & Company (Benesch) is a nationally recognized multi-disciplined engineering firm that has routinely been ranked as a "Go-To Design Firm" by Roads and Bridges magazine and a "Top Design Firm" by ENR. We have an immediate opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer in our Glastonbury, CT office.

Candidates shall possess a minimum of ten years of experience in progressive civil transportation design and construction experience with public agencies, including DOTs, counties and municipalities. Project management and business development experience desired.  Experience with CTDOT roadway and highway design and policies/procedures. Training and supervision of design staff is anticipated. Advanced skills in Bentley Microstation and InRoads software.

Duties & Responsibilities include

  • Ensure completeness of the design details.
  • Manage the process of compiling and coordinating plans, specifications, cost estimates and pay items.
  • Develop and review cost estimates.  Monitor and compare to client expectations.
  • Coordinate and/or review drafting and assembly of plan set.
  • Oversee layout and/or review drawings for a project.
  • Assemble competent project communications, including meeting minutes, technical documents and complete reports that require little editing and meet the client expectations. 
  • Assume responsibility for project design calculation files, assuring adequate independent quality control reviews on that work.
  • Check and sign off on design calculations and plan elements prior to Quality Assurance.
  • Develop and oversee task work plans for assigned team members.
  • Monitor work plans for adherence to budget and schedule.
  • Assume responsibility and ownership of the assigned project components.
  • Develop project design criteria for the assigned project components.
  • Demonstrate advanced use of CADD and assure compliance with project CADD standards
  • Understand and monitor the overall required scope, schedule and budget for the project deliverables.  Identify deficiencies and propose corrective action to problems noted.
  • Foster the team environment and promote team communication and assist in identifying and addressing team conflicts.
  • Assist in developing estimates of staff hours for contracts.
  • Organize technical meetings among design staff to advance project progress.
  • Organize and/or direct smaller projects in their entirety.
  • Perform occasional field construction observation, sometimes requiring out-of-town travel
  • Oversight/management of staff in the field.

Required Qualifications include: 

  • BS in civil engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of civil transportation design experience
  • Progressive experience with developing plans and specifications utilizing Microstation and InRoads
  • Excellent communication and client relation skills.
  • Strong organization and leadership skills with a track record for adhering to design budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to perform complex analysis and design
  • Ability to assemble a complete design package for assigned elements or projects
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
