Description

Benesch is consistently ranked among the top 500 consulting engineering firms in the United States by Engineering News-Record. We are looking to hire an experienced Electrical Project Engineer to be based out of our Chicago office. We offer opportunities to work on a variety of state and local transportation projects. 

Overview:

This position will be responsible for the study, design, and construction observation of electrical power, lighting, and routing services for transportation projects. Experience in the design of electrical systems for roadway lighting, traffic signal design, highway ITS, and pump stations required. Experience in electrical systems of moveable bridges desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure completeness of the electrical design and deployment/delivery details.
  • Manage the process of compiling and coordinating plans, cost estimates, and pay items.
  • Develop and review cost estimates.  Monitor and compare to client expectations.
  • Coordinate and/or review drafting and assembly of plan set.
  • Oversee layout and/or review drawings for a project.
  • Assemble competent project communications, including meeting minutes, technical documents and complete reports that require little editing and meet the client expectations. 
  • Assume responsibility for project design calculation files, assuring adequate independent quality control reviews on that work.
  • Check and sign off on electrical design calculations and plan elements prior to Quality Assurance.
  • Assume responsibility and ownership of the assigned project components.
  • Develop project electrical design criteria for the assigned project components.
  • Demonstrate advanced use of CADD and assure compliance with project CADD standards
  • Understand and monitor the overall required scope and schedule for the project deliverables.  Identify deficiencies and propose corrective action to problems noted.
  • Foster the team environment and promote team communication and assist in identifying and addressing team conflicts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or other related discipline required
  • 5 or more years of experience in providing design and construction support of multiple electrical projects for clients such as IDOT, Illinois Tollway, City of Chicago and other municipalities required.
  • Illinois EIT certification or PE licensure highly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability/experience with the following software: Bentley MicroStation/ProjectWise, AutoCAD, AGi32, Generator sizing software, Power systems analysis software (SKM Power Tools, Paladin DesignBase, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and client relation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
