Our Raleigh, NC office is looking to hire a Structural Project Engineer to manage transportation projects for public agencies, including DOTs, counties, and municipalities. 

Benesch is looking to hire a Structural Project Engineer in our growing Raleigh, NC office. The primary role is to work on highway bridge design projects and develop plans for projects across NC. Ideal candidate is familiar with NCDOT design policies, standards, and specifications and holds PE licensure.

A structural project engineer will perform structural analysis, design and detail plans for concrete and steel bridges, and coordinate with associated geotechnical and highway engineers.  The candidate should possess the skill set to perform bridge design calculations, geometry layout, bridge plans/details, and quantities and develop specifications.  This work will be developed and checked as a member of a project team. 

This position may also be required to assist with performing bridge safety inspections and developing the corresponding bridge ratings.  Travel will be required to perform the safety inspections.

 

Qualifications Include:

  • Must have six plus years of design experience on highway bridge projects for NCDOT
  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required.
  • Professional Engineer licensure – North Carolina.
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Experience developing plans and submissions per NCDOT standards and requirements.
  • Experience with LRFD concrete and steel design
  • Diverse knowledge of structural engineering principals and methodology
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards
  • Working knowledge of general purpose structural analysis program (including RC Pier, CONSPAN and MDX).
  • Performing load development and design calculations of project elements and checking work
  • Preparing neat and organized structural calculations
  • Designing and drafting structural elements and details
  • Developing task deliverables in a complete and reviewable manner
  • Performing tasks on schedule and within budget as assigned
  • Working independently under the guidance of a Project Manager 
  • Interest in field inspection (NBIS)

 

Other beneficial Qualifications include:

  • Ability to perform complex analysis and design
  • Experience with Microstation, AutoCAD, or similar program desired
  • Experience with NCDOT WIGINS inspection program desired.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written - e-mails, project memos, reports, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Positive attitude and good work ethic
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Willingness to travel to project sites, sometimes out-of-town
  • Valid driver’s license
