Description

Alfred Benesch & Company (Benesch) is a multi-disciplined engineering and environmental services firm. Benesch is consistently ranked among the top 500 consulting engineering firms in the United States by Engineering News-Record. We have an immediate opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer in the Chicago office. Candidates shall possess a minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in structural design. The successful candidate must be an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is interested and experienced in a variety of detailed technical aspects of engineering projects, the focus of which would be related to transit and highway projects. They must also have experience designing bridge projects and developing plans in accordance with DOT standards along with advanced skills in Bentley Microstation and Finite Element software. A PE License is required.

 

Duties & Responsibilities include: 

  • Review, direct and perform advanced and complex analysis and design

  • Take responsibility of the completeness of design details

  • Oversee collection of data and its application to project

  • Research design options and document findings

  • Organize project design calculations including identifying adequate independent QC review requirements

  • Review and approve project design criteria for various project components

  • Manage the process of compiling and coordinating plans, specifications, and estimates

  • Oversee usage of finite element software for a project and ensure its appropriate use and application by project staff.

  • Train/mentor designers and project engineers as necessary to complete required tasks

  • Practice good time management skills, demonstrating ability to work efficiently within time constraints while dealing with numerous concurrent activities

  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills to interface effectively with internal staff, clients, contractors, agencies and the public

  • Assure competent project communications, including meeting minutes, technical documents and complete reports that meet the client expectations and company standards.

  • Network and participate in professional/technical organizations

  • Publish technical papers and develop presentations

 

Required Qualifications include: 

  • BSCE and MSCE in Civil/Structural Engineering required

  • Licensed Professional Engineer and SE license for Illinois preferred

  • Minimum of 15 years of structural design experience

  • Progressive experience with developing plans and specifications utilizing Microstation

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license

  • Ability to perform complex analysis and design

  • Ability to assemble a complete design package for assigned elements or projects

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
