Alfred Benesch & Co., a multi-disciplined planning and engineering firm has an immediate opportunity for a Project Landscape Architect in our Charlotte, NC office. Benesch is a nationally recognized  professional services firm that offers Planning and Landscape Architecture services and is consistently ranked among the top 500 consulting  firms in the country by Engineering News Record .

 

Our Charlotte office is recognized as a leading provider of Planning and Landscape Architecture services for land development projects throughout NC and the Southeast. The candidate will work on producing site development documents for a variety of construction projects throughout NC. 

 

Job Position:

This is an experienced position involving exciting, challenging and complex assignments. The ideal Candidate will have strong design and graphic skills and be experienced in the design of Land Development projects. The Landscape Architect will work with the Project Manager to develop design concepts which are incorporated in the final product. The individual shall produce the majority of their own work and will, from time to time, be required to produce other’s designs.  As such, team building and management are also essential requirements. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and motivated to begin assuming project management tasks.

 

Qualifications Include:

  • B.S. Degree in Landscape Architecture or related discipline required.
  • Minimum 6-8 years progressively responsible Land Development design experience.
  • Registration as a Landscape Architect is not required, but would be considered a plus.

 

Other Qualifications include:

  • Excellent communication and client relation skills, experience interacting with clients, agencies, and other project stakeholders.
  • Must be proficient in the use of current versions of AutoCAD / Civil 3-D, Sketch-Up.
  • Demonstrate competent use of Civil 3D, Pond Pack, StormCAD & WaterCAD
  • Understanding and knowledge of applicable codes.
  • Keep current on the “State of the Art” in their design specialty through continuing education.
  • Strong 2D and 3D design and graphics skills.
  • Experience working with public agencies, private entities and/or municipalities.
  • Ability to work independently and develop task deliverables in a complete and reviewable manner.
  • Strong organization and leadership skills with a track record for adhering to design budgets and schedules.
  • Accustomed to working in a team environment on challenging projects.
  • Skilled in grading and earthwork management.

 

 

 

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Develop Concepts or schematic designs in concert with the Project Manager, including layout, grading, hydrology, and erosion control.
  • Research local/ State regulations as they pertain to site plans. Research non-routine code issues and obtain interpretations from code officials.
  • Research non-routine code issues and obtain interpretations from code officials in an effort to assist the team by ultimately obtaining necessary permit approvals.
  • Research local/state regulations as they pertain to site plans (Code Study).
  • Incorporate design concepts from schematic design into design development and work with the project team to produce construction documents.
  • Preparing Site engineering drawings.  Applicant should have a good understanding of Site planning and engineering and able to assemble full Construction Documents for Land Development.
  • Provide detailed plans and supporting calculations for storm water systems (piping, water quality, and detention facilities), utility systems, road profiles and sedimentation and erosion control plans
  • Select and /or develop details that will be used on project.
  • Document existing conditions and perform troubleshooting.
  • Edit specification sections, Compile project manuals.
  • Design elements/component of a project and demonstrate awareness of other elements in their design.
  • As part of the role in construction administration, applicant may attend construction meetings and produce site observation reports when required.
  • Prepare addendum and change orders.  Initiate additional service requests and turn over to Project Manager for submittal to client.
  • Prepare opinion of probable cost for site development and review contractor cost estimates.
  • Review drawings and documents to assure compliance with Benesch design and production standards.
  • Use computer programs and spread sheets for engineering analysis and presentations.
  • Prepare regulatory permit applications, submit for permits, monitor submittals through the review process, and revise plans as needed to obtain approval from the permitting agency.
