Description

Alfred Benesch & Company is a multi-disciplined engineering and environmental services firm. Benesch is consistently ranked among the top 500 consulting engineering firms in the United States by Engineering News-Record. We are looking to hire an entry level civil designer to be based out of our Chicago office. We offer opportunities to work on a variety of transportation projects with state and local transportation agencies. Ideal candidates will hold an Engineer-In-Training certification, with aspirations of obtaining PE licensure.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collect and assimilate data

  • Perform basic analysis, design calculations, and coordinate drafting of project elements

  • Draw design details

  • Compute quantities and demonstrate awareness of relationships to pay items

  • Review mathematical calculations of others and organize calculations to be included in design file, following project standards and as assigned

  • Develop task deliverables in a complete and reviewable manner

  • Perform tasks on schedule and within budget as assigned

  • Work independently under the guidance of a Project Engineer 

 

Qualifications:

  • BS in civil engineering or a related discipline required

  • Illinois EIT certification preferred, with desire to obtain P.E. in future

  • 0-2 years of related civil transportation design internship and/or work experience desired

  • Experience with IDOT or Illinois Tollway is a plus

  • Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate software

  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable codes & standards

  • Demonstrated understanding and use of AutoCAD

  • Competent use of Microsoft Office products

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written - e-mails, project memos, reports, etc.)

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment
