Description

Alfred Benesch & Company is a multi-disciplined engineering and environmental services firm. Benesch is consistently ranked among the top 500 consulting engineering firms in the United States by Engineering News-Record. Benesch's Great Plain’s Region (NE, KS, MO, CO) is looking to hire an experienced Aviation Project Manager. The candidate must be a licensed PE with 10+ years of aviation design and construction experience at both general aviation and commercial service airports. 

 

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (transportation emphasis is a plus)
  • 10+ years of experience in aviation related projects
  • Current P.E. license, with ability to acquire new PE licenses in other states by comity.
  • Excellent communication and client relation skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to travel (short out of town stays) for remote aviation projects
  • Strong organization and leadership skills with a track record for adhering to design budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to perform complex analysis and design
  • Ability to assemble a complete design package for assigned elements or projects
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

 

AVIATION SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

  • Management of design and construction projects at both General Aviation (GA) and commercial service (Part 139) airports
  • Aviation client management.
  • Basic understanding of FAA funding.
  • Solid understanding of the FAA pavement design Advisory Circulars and pavement design softwares (FAARFIELD and COMFAA).
  • Background/Experience with pavement asset management (PCI studies and other non-destructive testing is a plus)
  • Project management experience related to the design and construction of FAA lighting and Navigational Aids (NAVAIDs).
  • Experience with the development of airport planning documents (ALPs and Master Plans)
  • Solid understanding of the FAA’s current construction specifications (AC 150/5370-10)
  • Solid understanding of FAA airport construction safety and the formulation of ‘Construction Safety and Phasing Plans’ (CSPPs) for both general aviation and commercial service (Part 139) airports.
  • Experience with managing large aviation paving construction projects.

 

 

 

General Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage aviation design and construction projects
  • Manage multiple projects at one time
  • Manage assigned projects by providing direct supervision and overall leadership
  • Develop and/or monitor advanced project scopes, schedules and budgets
  • Proactively plan resources needed and effectively manage staff duties and responsibilities
  • Demonstrate advanced ability to utilize accounting and scheduling software for project management
  • Analyze accounting reports and project schedule for variances and proactively plan to meet budgets and deadlines
  • Resolve scope, schedule and/or budget discrepancies with client
  • Lead contract negotiations
  • Train junior staff
  • Review and/or perform complete complex analysis and design
  • Review and/or develop thorough design details appropriate for the project
  • Properly apply design standards/codes
  • Manage preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates and pay items.  Take ownership of all deliverables
  • Analyze cost estimates for agreement with client expectations and identify anomalies and propose corrective action to the client as appropriate
  • Review and/or prepare all needed project correspondence (internal and external)
  • Resolve plan conflicts during construction.
  • Answer questions from contractors and/or field staff during construction.
  • Oversight/management of staff in the field.
  • Schedule, conduct and manage project meetings (in particular detailed aviation design meetings)
  • Maintain client contact / positive relationships
  • Serve as primary interface between client and staff for a given project or projects
  • Manage coordination, monitoring and reviewing of work performed by sub‐consultants

  • Assist with marketing efforts, proposal writing and marketing visits to potential (aviation) clients
  • Continually seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships
