Description

 

Alfred Benesch & Company (Benesch) is a nationally recognized multi-disciplined engineering consulting firm that has routinely been ranked as a "Go-To Design Firm" by Roads and Bridges magazine. We have an immediate opportunity for an experienced Technologist in our Pittsburgh, PA office

CADD Technologist position with 3-5 years of “engineering” drafting experience with transportation engineering drafting experience preferred.  Experience working with PennDOT is a plus.  Technical school degree or diploma preferred.  Understanding of basic land surveying is a plus. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Gather field data and site information by means of surveying, hand measuring, photographing and sketches
  • Review and coordinate project requirements and design criteria with Project Managers
  • Develop preliminary/conceptual plans of proposed work in the form of maps, photos, sketches, CAD drawings or written explanation
  • Draft and create construction documents utilizing AutoCAD and Microstation
  • Coordinate drafting and design with Project Engineers
  • Coordinate design and layout with applicable code requirements
  • Assist with and perform design calculations
  • Gather quantities and perform estimations of project construction costs
  • Develop and draw design details, plans, sections and notes independently and from verbal or written direction
  • Recording and organization of progress files, email correspondence, design alterations and project status
  • Printing, plot and scanning of various project plans and drawing data  
  • Perform occasional field construction observation, sometimes requiring out-of-town travel 

 

Skills & Knowledge:

 

  • Associate's degree in Computer Aided Design Drafting or related area preferred
  • ACI Inspector certifications are a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of appropriate software: MicroStation, AutoCAD, Windows/Networks, Microsoft Office
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and practices
  • Basic understanding of project scheduling and deadlines
  • Knowledge of design function and requirements
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of construction methods and fundamentals
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of applicable codes (ADA, IBC, etc.)
