Payroll Manager


The payroll manager is responsible for coordinating the daily operation and activities of the payroll function. This position manages, and coordinates specified aspects of the payroll function, which services all salaried and hourly employees, both exempt and non-exempt, within the US and Canada.  The payroll manager is responsible for the accurate and timely calculation of the payroll, taxes, withholding, and the related payments consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws. They are also responsible for compliance with government reporting guidelines and enduring that reports are accurate and disbursed in a timely matter.



Administers and Manages the United States and Canadian payroll process by:

  • Processing timely and accurate full-cycle payroll processing is completed for multiple states in the US and provinces in Canada

  • Ensuring proper setup and maintenance of company payroll processing system

  • Setting up, reviewing and maintaining employees master files within the company’s ERP system

  • Maintaining related records, reports and voluntary deductions reports, 401K deductions, vacations, processing involuntary deductions such as levies, garnishments, creating and maintaining special reports for accounting department as needed

  • Filling weekly, monthly and quarterly Federal and multi-State taxes: Canadian taxes and worker comp reports: preparing, analyzing and reconciling payroll reports and accounts

  • Vertex and ESU testing whenever there is tax or ESU updates to ensure everything is calculating correctly

  • Enforcing payroll policies and procedures

  • Keep current on legislation and regulatory rulings impacting payroll functions, enforce adherence to the rulings and advise management on required action

  • Reconcile payroll related ledger account and prepare any necessary journal entries

  • Audit each payroll for accuracy

  • Annual W2 and T4 processing

  • Other duties as assigned


    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Multi-state payroll experience and knowledge of Canadian payroll a plus

  • Proficient in the use of payroll related software programs and knowledge of Enterprise One and Business Intelligence Intermediate to advanced, is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and resolve practical problems, keeping all appropriate parties aware of issues or risks  

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Must be detail oriented

  • Ability to work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines and proven ability to maintain confidentiality while managing highly sensitive and confidential data


  • 5+ years payroll experience

  • Preferred JD Edwards EnterpriseOne experience
