DIRCTOR OF TAX
Washington Corporations, headquartered in Missoula, Montana, provides central and administrative services to the Washington Companies. Washington Corporations is currently recruiting for a Dirctor of Tax that will report to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer. This position is responsible for the tax compliance, tax planning and accounting for income taxes and the oversight of the compliance process of numerous partnerships, corporations, trusts and individuals located throughout the US and Canada. This position will work with financial management within the Company and Operating Companies, and third party service providers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the maintenance of the comprehensive tax strategy and global tax planning, as well as propose strategies to minimize the company’s tax burden while maintaining proper compliance with existing laws.
Responsible for completion of federal, international and state income tax returns including all related analysis and support.
Responsible for audits of federal, state and international income tax and state and local filings.
Responsible for accounting for income taxes (ASC 740) in the US and International subsidiaries.
Coordination of accounting for income taxes for international subsidiaries with third party vendors.
Responsible for transfer pricing and management fee arrangements.
Knowledge of tax in the area of acquisitions, dispositions and legal entity restructuring in order to evaluate US and global tax impacts of new transactions; and provide due diligence and tax planning for business acquisitions.
Provide management to accounting staff assigned as direct reports.
Liaison with operating management on tax issues and accounting staff on tax accounting issues.
Ensuring that appropriate internal controls are in place over accounting for income taxes.
Departmental liaison with IT staff on all technical matters relating to tax applications.
Assisting and guiding the CFAO with tax planning issues as required.
Assist the CFAO and Treasury Manager in estimating and monitoring annual cash taxes.
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rule, regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
Any other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Advanced technical knowledge of GAAP, including financial practices and procedures.
Knowledge of integrated management information systems including advanced knowledge of JD Edwards, SAP Business Intelligence or comparative systems. Ability to enhance the use of the system’s functionality within a complex environment.
Ability to work independently under tight deadlines with the appropriate sense of urgency.
Ability to maintain the highest degree of professionalism and confidentiality in all matters.
Strong leadership abilities.
Ability to prepare and maintain tax records, returns, reports and other related material with the highest level of accuracy.
Ability to develop and implement tax strategy and identify tax treatment to alleviate or reduce tax burden.
Ability to devise legal means to minimize tax liability using comprehensive knowledge of tax laws and regulations.

Education and Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Accounting.
Master’s Degree in Business Taxation preferred.
JD and/or CPA preferred.
Minimum of ten years of related experience with at least five years in a public accounting firm.
Experience with ERP systems
Must have a demonstrated hands-on approach and success in working in a team-based environment
International tax experience required
"Big Four" or national accounting firm tax experience a plus.
