 Washington Corporations is looking for a software developer to join our team.  The IT development team provides     development services across the Washington Companies in a fast paced, multifaceted environment. As a developer on this team, you will be responsible for both the new development and system support, combining innovation and stabilization to develop operational systems, portals and system integrations across the Washington Companies.

Primary Requirements

  • Software Development -  in this role you should have a working knowledge of software development using an object-oriented language.  If C# is not the primary language known, we will require the person to learn it as it is the current standard for new development.  The project mix ranges from brand new custom applications to replacement and enhancement of existing applications including supporting over 120 different applications/integrations in a mixed-development environment.
  • System Analysis - you will be required to have business analysis skills that will focus on both the business and system requirements.  This involves planning the development process, determining which requirements are the highest priority and managing change.   We are looking for resourcefulness. We don’t expect people to know everything, so the ability to figure things out fast and independently is key.
  • Project and Time Managementplanning, organizing and then management of your time required to complete a specific task. You must have exceptional multitasking skills, high attention to detail, the ability to work quickly and efficiently, and a passion for learning new trends, techniques, and shortcuts

Key Skills

  • Development Skills ability to discern and advise our team who believes in a strong mix of languages and using the right tool to match the unique challenges with experience in:
    • object oriented programming language
      • C# and SOA (creating & consuming Web Services) experience preferred but not required
    • front end web design and development
      • PHP, JavaScript, JQuery, CSS, HTML5 preferred but not required
    • database development and SQL
      • MS-SQL preferred but not required
  • System Analysis Skills – these competencies included leadership, communication, organizational dynamics, strategy, process & tactic, technology breadth and technology depth.   The person is capable in project solving and has the right balanced mix of technical and business skills.

Environment

We support the IT needs of the Washington Companies who are a group of individual privately held companies headquartered throughout the United States and western Canada and conducting business internationally in: marine transportation, mining, rail transportation, heavy equipment distribution, environmental remediation and aviation technology and service.

Our team is critical to our success, and you will need to be able to participate in a free exchange of ideas and give and receive feedback to be an effective member of this team. Additionally, the role requires you to handle varying types of requests. Some will require quick turnaround while others will allow for deeper innovative emersion.  Understanding what level of development to apply to different requests, based on need and impact, will be a critical part of day-to-day prioritization. 

Education

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, information systems or related field

Job Requirements

This role will require periodic after-hours work (including evenings, weekends and holidays).  Additionally, you will share on-call responsibilities in specific scenarios with your team as directed by management.

The position requires periodic travel to meet and work with our customers, vendors, and partners in the United States, Canada and possibly abroad. A passport for international travel must be maintained during your employment and candidate must be able to travel to foreign countries.
