Hawkins is looking for a Health & Safety Specialist to join the Health, Safety & Environmental team at corporate headquarters in Roseville, MN. This individual will provide leadership and assistance in the prevention of workplace incidents and injuries, by identifying and correcting potential health and safety hazards, ensuring occupational regulatory requirements are met, and reporting on performance outcomes.
Coach and mentor employees and leaders to ensure compliance with company and governmental regulations, support incident investigations and corrective action process, and proactively seek ways to improve overall employee health and safety performance.
Implement safe work instructions and monitor conformance through site assessments. Conduct safety assessments at plant locations, including communication of findings and management of documentation.
Analyze PPE needs and assist in the procurement process; coordinate necessary medical surveillance such as respiratory fit testing and DOT physicals.
Coordinate employee safety training and participate in safety committee meetings.
Update safety-related policies and procedures, ensure compliance with regulation, and verify adherence.
Assist with required regulatory reporting such as OSHA 300 logs, and manage external safety databases.
Assist with DHS security requirements, emergency response drills, and other tasks and projects.
Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or related field with 2+ years of experience; or equivalent work experience
OSHA 30 and/or OSHA 511 coursework preferred
ASP/CSP certification preferred
Training development and delivery experience preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication, and time management skills
Ability to effectively work independently and as part of a team
Ability to multitask and provide excellent follow-up
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Able to travel up to 25% within the Twin Cities and out-of-state
Able to sit, stand, bend, reach, ascend or descend stairs, and walk for extended periods of time in an office or manufacturing setting, including areas where conditions may include odors, varying temperatures, humidity and moderate levels of noise
Ability to wear PPE such as a respirator and chemical suit
Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis
