Position: Exhibit Installer – Travelling Exhibits

 

Status: Part Time or Full Time; Temporary; Non Exempt

 

Department: Exhibit Operations

Division: Exhibits & Life Sciences

Pay: $17.00/hour

 

Purpose:  Exhibit Installers provide assistance with exhibit installations and fabrication work on an as needed basis in order to enhance the guest experience for all visitors of Pacific Science Center. These positions support the transition and installations for the Center’s travelling exhibits.

The next project will occur September, 2017 for the de-installation of Terracotta Warriors of The First Emperor

Applications are screened on a rolling basis and the position will be open until all positions have been filled for the upcoming projects. Priority consideration given to those who apply before Monday, August 14th, 2017.

 

 

Organizational Fit:

1.     Reports to: Exhibit Operations Manager

2.     Positions reporting to this position: None

3.     Peers: Custodian, Facilities Technician

4.     Positions incumbent interfaces with inside and outside organization: Exhibits & Life Sciences Division, Facilities, Custodial, vendor technicians

 

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

1. Facilitates seasonal exhibit changes by: moving exhibits (crated and uncrated), assembling and disassembling exhibit pieces as instructed, connecting exhibit pieces to house systems as directed (lighting, power, compressed air), assisting with loading and offloading trucks and trailers

2. Assists with fabrication and shop projects as needed

3. OTHER duties as assigned.

4. Artifact handling for select positions. 

 

Major Challenges and Special Conditions: Work is temporary and seasonal, typically in January, May and September.  Work is physical in nature, includes lifting/pushing/pulling heavy objects, working at heights of up to 30 feet and can include working around machinery.

 

Position Requirements: Knowledge, Education, Skills, Experience, Abilities

 

Required – Ability to operate hand tools.  Experience in at least one of the following areas: construction, demolition, electronics, carpentry, metalwork, drywall & painting, home repair, theater style lighting, rigging. Collaborative team player. Track record of safe work practices. 

 

Preferred – Demonstrated proficiency or technical certification in any of the following areas: electronics, carpentry, metalwork, theater style lighting, rigging. Prior relevant experience in a exhibit or facilities role.

 

Desired – Experience in technical theater, museums or custom fabrication.  General artistic ability.  OSHA certified forklift operator.  Experience operating motorized lifts and ladders.
