Co-op Start Dates Available: Summer 2019 (This is a three rotation opportunity, Summer 2019/Spring 2020/ Fall 2020.

A billing department within a major utility company located in Georgia (Tucker), provides an excellent learning environment for engineering, computer science, or business administration Co-ops. The department’s primary function is to provide wholesale power billing services for 38 EMCs with extreme emphasis on accuracy.  The department operates in a stress-free environment and participates in a number of team-oriented exercises which makes the learning experience even more exciting.  The diversity of the team allows the team members to learn from each other.  In the event there is a job opening in the department, those who have previously worked with the department would be given priority to fill the opening.  

Co-op Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Learn about the EMCs, including their history as well as their relationship with OPC

  • Gain practical experience in business/system analysis

  • Learn the key documents that drive billing calculations (WSPC, MSPP, RSA, etc.)

  • Learn the various charges billed to the EMCs, including the companies that the EMCs pay for the various services 

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of data used to calculate the EMC bills

  • Understand the framework of the billing data flow, from providers to the billing system 

  • Learn the working relationship of FOC personnel, particularly the data providers 

  • Learn the various billing allocators used in the billing calculations and what they mean

  • Learn the different types of generating assets, including the type of fuel each one uses

The bulk of the time spent with the department would be devoted to learning the various duties outlined above.  The co-op student would be rotated among the department’s staff to learn all of the duties.


Student enrolled in a four-year accredited college or university in one of the following areas:

  • Engineering

  • Computer Science

  • Business Administration 

Skills Needed: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be detail oriented and possess excellent follow-up skills 

  • Working knowledge of computer application software (training will be provided if needed)

  • Must be flexible and able to work overtime when required

  • Must be organized and work well with constant priority changes

  • Must be able to work in a team environment
