In the Timing Products Division  at IDT, we are passionate about developing software and systems knowledge to help our customers solve big problems (synchronization of communications systems using 1588) on a small scale (embedded computing environments). We use a disciplined Agile development environment where the development team is able to work with business stakeholders to flexibly meet business goals and comply with industry standards such as IEEE 1588.

We are looking for an embedded software engineer who can demonstrate experience of energetic and inspiring embedded software development practice. Per the Agile process, our ideal candidate will understand the implications of iterative and incremental design for a system architecture and how to apply that to their areas of expertise.

To take on this role you must have a deep knowledge of embedded software development using Linux and the practical aspects of embedded practice, including board bring-up, debug and code analysis relating to concurrency, interrupts, performance and system stability.


  • Maintain comprehensive unit tests

  • Maintain device drivers and device driver architecture across our family of devices

    • Support hardware verification

    • Effectively communicate technical changes such as in SW architecture to business stakeholders

    • Produce and maintain API and user documentation

    • Maintain SW Architecture

    • Become the “go to” person (subject matter expert) for knowledge about device behavior with respect to IDT software

  • Maintain IEEE 1588 software

    • Maintain SW Architecture

    • Maintain build environment using Makefiles and CMake

    • Produce and maintain API and user documentation

    • Debug concurrent software (threads, kernels, ethernet networking, Linux)

  • Support customers when required for deeper R&D support

  • Verifying functional software on hardware platforms

    • Using oscilloscopes, generators, general test equipment

    • Interpreting schematic diagrams, board layoutand datasheets

  • Mentor and support team members

    • SW techniques, practices

    • Debugging HW/SW interactions

Qualifications Requirements:

  • Object oriented design

  • C programming

  • Unit tests

  • Excellent speaking, reading and writing skill in English


  • IEEE 1588

  • Packet synchronization

  • Git, Confluence, Jira Agile

  • Python, perl, bash scripting, Tcl, Java


  • Undergraduate or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or closely related field
