The General Manager, Café sets direction for the Café in terms of cuisine while managing the front and back of house to Holt Renfrew standards.

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Communicate appropriate parameters, standards and prescribed limits for direct reports; helping them to understand how they drive business
  • Establish effective working relationships with direct reports and manage performance
  • Develop succession planning, team building and skill development
  • Maintain all Health & Safety practices to code
  • Drive business improvements and champion systems and process change
  • Ensure that schedules reflect business needs
  • Create and control department payroll and expense budgets
  • Manage and maintain all capital equipment and costs
  • Drive sales and profits
  • Provide catering services to store and external functions
  • Maintain a spotless kitchen
  • Maintain all safety practices and food handling to code
  • Create a menu appropriate to the Holt Renfrew image and standard
  • Ensure that only the freshest ingredients are utilized
  • Remain current with trends and fashions in food
  • Plate and present all food as per Holt Renfrew standard
  • Ensure that all employees are fully trained on customer service expectations and delivery requirements within the restaurant
  • Resolve customer complaints in a timely and mutually beneficial manner
  • Implement change in systems or practices to improve service delivery

The ideal candidate:

  • High school diploma
  • Diploma from a culinary school or institute
  • 8-10 years restaurant experience
  • Previous experience as a restaurant manager

The measures of success: 

  • Contribution to financial objectives
  • Individual objectives linked to the achievement of department goals
  • Feedback from internal and external clients
