The Analyst, Strategy and Business Development serves on a small team in the Office of the President helping drive the company’s strategic planning, executive governance, and overall strategy & growth levers for the business. The team is accountable for a mix of ongoing planning activities both internally and with Group ownership, as well as ad hoc special projects to provide support to key initiatives in the business. As well, the team currently helps provide rigor and discipline around Network investments, our largest capital outlays. The Analyst takes scope and direction from the DVP and Manager(s) and collaborates within the team and across the organization to drive to actionable outputs.


Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

Strategic planning:

  • Support the development of the five-year and one-year plans and underlying initiatives by collaborating within the team and across the organization
  • Help capture and track corporate initiatives as defined through the strategy
  • Support the development of key reviews and presentations through the annual and quarterly reviews (internally and with Group) owning key analyses and outputs

Executive governance:

  • Support management of the President’s Office and Executive Team agendas by helping track and follow up on key priorities and actions
  • Support development of key communication materials and forums including Executive Team meetings, SLT meetings, Town Halls, etc.

Network Masterplan and Smallcap business cases:

  • Support the development and delivery of robust business cases for key network investment decisions (both Masterplan and Smallcap)
  • Support the prioritization process including development of annual budget and draw-down of budget as projects actualized
  • For each business case, under the leadership of the DVP and Manager(s): understand key objectives, gather inputs (sales and costs), pressure test and triangulate key assumptions, team with Finance for return modeling, create compelling output
  • Team with Finance to address discrepancies vs. budget
  • Conduct post-mortems to understand drivers of gaps vs. expectations on performance

Strategic deep dives & analytics

  • Provide strategic, analytical, and communication support for critical organization projects
  • For identified projects: push fresh & outside thinking, conduct analytics, and develop compelling output taking direction from DVP, Manager(s) and key business leads

External trends and insights

  • Monitor trends and extract implications for the organization
  • Review and summarize competitor announcements and earnings reports for executives
  • Develop and maintain ongoing view of market size, growth, share

Corporate Development

  • Identify and evaluate disruptive / out of the box ideas for sales and profit growth
  • Team with key functions or outside support partners to provide support on evaluation of M&A, partnerships, and new business models

 

The ideal candidate:

  • Has an Undergraduate degree in business or economics from a leading program
  • Has a strong background in business, retail, and analytics
  • Has at least two years of experience in consulting, strategy/business development, or retail
  • Thinks critically and creatively, has the ability to respectfully question assumptions and existing thinking
  • Has an underlying interest and curiosity around retail and luxury fashion
  • Is comfortable operating in large data sets
  • Is a strong communicator both orally and in written presentations
  • Is experienced in Microsoft Office and other data management & presentation tools

 

The measures of success:

  • On-time delivery and sign-off of strategic plan and supporting elements
  • Delivery of organization’s strategic initiatives
  • On-time and accurate delivery and sign-off of Network business cases
  • Positive feedback from key functions and executive leadership on collaboration and support
