Perform System Protection (protective relaying) functions requiring detailed electrical studies of Georgia Transmission Corporation's distribution substations, transmission substations, and customer generation interfaces. Perform evaluation, application and/or selection of standard engineering techniques, guidelines, procedures and standards to maintain the power system integrity. The individual will represent the System Protection Department as an integral part of corporate teams on assignments with clear and specific objectives and requiring the application of system operating practice and protection requirements. Decisions involving protection, control, and equipment rating are made independently with general technical guidance and assistance. Supports the review of work products of peers and mentors lower level staff.
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
Level IV: Six years of experience (four with P.E.) in the power system environment with at least three years in system protection and at least one year of leadership responsibilities.
Level V: Eight years of experience (six with P.E.) in the power system environment with at least four years in system protection and at least two years of key leadership responsibilities.
Specialized Skills (e.g., typing, computers, software, tools and equipment uses, etc.):
Knowledge of electrical control theory, distribution and transmission protective relays, Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), power system modeling (Siemens CAPE/Aspen/PECO/PSSE or equivalent) and fault coordination, and FERC/NERC/ERO Compliance issues. Ability to interpret one-line, three-line, electrical elementary, electrical connection and wiring diagrams. Effective communication and presentation skills, and ability to travel independently.
