Position Summary

Freedom House seeks a Logistics Officer for an anticipated five-year project on regional human rights in Southern Africa. This Human Rights Support Mechanism project, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, will improve the recognition, awareness and enforcement of human rights in the region, with special focus on select rights and a crosscutting emphasis on protecting the region’s most vulnerable and marginalized groups.

The Logistics Officer will be responsible for coordinating all logistics related to program activities, including liaising with vendors, travel agents, service providers and partners.  This position will be based in Johannesburg, South Africa and will report to the Senior Finance Officer.

Note: This position is contingent on funding.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate travel arrangements, including liaising with travel agents, transport and accommodation vendors, for regional and international staff, partners and participants of activities;

  • Manage the process of participant M&IE disbursements during travel;

  • Create invitations/agendas and manage RSVPs;

  • Document events/trainings, including filing and storing event photos, invitation lists, agendas, etc. electronically and when appropriate, in hard copy form;

  • Oversee follow-up activities, including sending thank you letters and documenting lessons-learned and helping out with other debriefing activities;

  • Reconcile all travel advances, contracts and credit cards, in coordination with the Finance Department;

  • Develop and maintain a regional vendor and service provider database;

  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Finance Officer.

 

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; 

  • Demonstrated interest in, and knowledge of Sub-Saharan Africa; strong interpersonal skills; excellent organizational and communications skills;

  • Experience performing basic administrative tasks in an office environment; an ability to work collaboratively with numerous teams including programs and finance;

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite;  specifically Excel, Word and Outlook;

  • Knowledge of international human rights, democracy, and rule of law issues is highly desired;

  • Fluency in oral and written English is required. Position is based in Johannesburg, South Africa, with possible regional travel required;

  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times.
