Description

Freedom House is an independent watchdog organization dedicated to the expansion of freedom and democracy around the world. We analyze the challenges to freedom, advocate for greater political rights and civil liberties, and support frontline activists to defend human rights and promote democratic change. Founded in 1941, Freedom House was the first American organization to champion the advancement of freedom globally.

 

Position Summary

Assist with logistical, research, programmatic, and administrative support for Freedom House’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) programs. The intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in program administration, grants management, proposal development and writing, and miscellaneous support to Freedom House’s human rights projects in the MENA region. This position is based out of Washington, DC and can be either part-time or full-time depending on availability.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
  • Strong regional knowledge of the Middle East and North Africa
  • Knowledge of international human rights issues
  • Strong research and writing/editing skills
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills
  • Experience in preparing financial documents helpful
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Excel
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the team
  • Keen attention to detail and strong ability to follow through on tasks
  • Fluency in Arabic strongly preferred

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide research assistance for programs and proposal development
  • Assist in editing/writing proposals, reports, press releases, and briefing books
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for day-to-day functioning of MENA programs
  • Prepare financial forms and draft agreements, and assist with budget tracking
  • Assist in organizing events and meetings in DC and abroad related to Freedom House programs
