SCHEDULE:  Full-time, generally Mon. - Fri. days.  Must be flexible to work evenings/weekends based upon business need.

SALARY: $2,274.19 bi-weekly (26 pay periods)

SUMMARY:

This position is a highly responsible, professional supervisory position overseeing the management of the Reference Services and Technical Processing Departments under the general direction of the Library Director. This position is also responsible for the formulation of policies and procedures, analyzing, evaluating, and recommending improved methods of library service for the Public Service Department. Independent judgment, discretion and due diligence must be consistently exercised in the performance of the job duties and responsibilities.  EOE.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supervises professional and non-professional staff in the Reference Services and Technical Services Departments through annual evaluations, staff meetings, one-on-one meetings, and daily communications.

  2. Serves as the Librarian in charge of the entire library in the absence of the Library Director.

  3. Establishes work schedules and ensures the department is covered during open hours.

  4. Conducts training sessions with departmental staff to ensure quality public service by providing a complete understanding of all public access computers, reference materials, the Integrated Library System and collection development procedures.

  5. Oversees the direction of all youth, teen, and adult library programs including content, publicity and planning.

  6. Assists patrons with reference needs utilizing print and non-print resources in all subject areas, answering questions in person or by phone, mail, and e-mail.

  7. Oversees and participates in the Book-A-Librarian program, providing one-on-one hour long sessions by appointment to answer reference questions and provide basic computer assistance.

  8. Operates standard library equipment such as audio-visual equipment, copiers, computers, self-checkout, and sorting equipment, and interfaces with technical support to report and/or troubleshoot issues.

  9. Collaborates with the MetrOPAC member libraries to maintain partnership.

  10. Participates in professional organizations to keep abreast of library trends and suggest improvements to services.

  11. Actively pursues community partnerships through embedded librarianship.

  12. Manages the Library’s web presence, including the city website, social media accounts, and digital newsletters.

  13. Analyzes data, including circulation stats, database usage, and event attendance, to make data-driven programming and purchasing decisions.

  14. Assists with the development of the annual library budget.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  Master’s Degree in relevant field required. Master’s Degree in Library Science or a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited University preferred.

2.   Minimum of three years working in a library including one year supervisory experience.

3.   Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees and citizens of all ages.

4.   Experience with Microsoft Office, Internet, on-line database retrieval and related hardware.

5.   Familiarity with the Polaris Library System preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to read a computer screen or documents, grasp, handle, feel, listen, reach, see, speak, walk, and stand for long periods.  The employee is occasionally required to climb, kneel, twist, lift, carry, drag, balance, bend, stoop, squat, push, and/or pull up to 35lbs.  Work is generally performed in a climate-controlled office with occasional exposure to outdoors in extreme weather conditions. Hours Vary. Some overtime may be required.
