WSP is is currently seeking a qualified individual to join our team in the capacity of Professional Geoscientist specializing in Hydrogeology. This position is located at our Kitchener office and the successful candidate will be a Project Hydrogeologist/Scientist within the Hydrogeology group, to help deliver existing projects and develop new business opportunities.This role offers a variety of work, generally office time performing various tasks related to Hydrogeology, with field work as required. 


  • Completing, or directing field investigations including soil, groundwater, sediment, soil vapour, and surface water sampling, overseeing drilling contractors, surveying, coordination of sample analysis with laboratories;
  • Completing, or directing, background documentation reviews, field investigations, data analysis, and preparing reports to document findings:
    • Field investigations including soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water sampling, overseeing drilling or excavation contractors, soil logging and surveying;
    • Data analysis will require knowledge and understanding of hydrogeological principles, including water balance, aquifer performance testing, hydrogeological interpretation, and groundwater-surface water interaction; and,
    • Report writing must follow scientific principles with clear and concise presentation of information in a manner that can be understood by the general public;
  • Prepare and submit permit applications and registrations in accordance with groundwater regulations and permitting requirements;
  • Oversight of environmental monitoring for impacts during construction;
  • Assist peers and senior hydrogeologists and mentor junior team members as required;
  • Provide excellent service to existing and potential clients;
  • Prepare proposals that clearly describe project scope, timelines and competitive budgets;
  • Collaborate with other disciplines within WSP on multi-disciplinary projects; and,
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Degree specializing in Geosciences, Hydrogeology, Engineering or related discipline;
  • Intermediate level of experience as a hydrogeological specialist with experience in the engineering consulting industry an asset;
  • Ontario licensed P.Eng. or P.Geo or eligibility for a P.Eng. or P.Geo in Ontario;
  • Experience completing hydrogeological and environmental investigations or monitoring programs;
  • Knowledge and experience in field practices and site investigation and characterization techniques, including environmental management principles and regulations in Ontario;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to schedule multiple tasks at various stages of projects, including fieldwork and reporting;
  • Attention to detail, including documentation;
  • Excellent English (verbal / written) communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate effectively and to proactively respond to time-sensitive issues;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products;
  • Experience in the practical application of groundwater modelling programs is considered an asset;
  • Willing to travel locally (GTA) for fieldwork and occasional travel may be required to remote locations;
  • Must have reliable access to a vehicle with adequate insurance coverage as well as a full driver's license and clean driver's abstract.
