WSP is currently seeking a Project Scientist - Intermediate Ecologist to join our Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment Team in either Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta. Reporting to the Team Lead, the successful candidate will be provided the opportunity to work on challenging and diverse projects across Alberta with a wide range of complexity.


  • Conduct pre-development field assessments and prepare reports for transportation, municipal infrastructure, renewable energy, and oil and gas projects
  • Identification of potential environmental issues in relation to proposed developments (e.g. wetlands, watercourses, wildlife, vegetation, and soils)
  • Provide environmental construction monitoring for a variety of projects
  • Analyze, evaluate and interpret data while providing results within the scope and objective(s) of the specific project
  • Interact with clients, staff and regulatory agencies
  • Mentor, coach and supervise junior project staff
  • Implement corporate and client safety programs
  • Other duties as assigned/required.


  • Degree in Biology, Ecology or related field with a strong background in field ecology
  • 5+ years of experience working in a consulting firm in an Ecologist role or equivalent
  • Wetland classification/delineation experience under the Alberta Wetland Policy is a requirement
  • Designation as a qualified wetland science practitioner (QWSP) or an interest in working toward the designation is an asset
  • Experience conducting soil surveys is a requirement
  • Experience working on transportation projects is an asset
  • Registration (or eligible) with a professional association (e.g. P.Biol, P.Ag. R.T.Biol.) within Alberta is an asset
  • Demonstrated written and communication skills are a requirement
  • A valid Alberta driver's license (min Class 5 with GDL removed)
  • The desire to succeed in a dynamic, progressive organization
