POSITION DESCRIPTION

WSP is currently seeking an Intermediate Biologist to join our Environmental department, located at our Dartmouth office to cover a maternity/parental leave with the possibility of becoming permanent due to our planned future growth of the Atlantic team.  We are a small dynamic group that is very team oriented and have several very exciting projects on the go. We are looking for an individual that is specialized in either ornithology, fisheries, and/or wetlands. The individual wishing to apply is also expected to have experience with leading field crews, permitting, Environmental Impact Assessments, and proposal/ report writing. This position involves field work and will require some travel throughout the Atlantic Provinces.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in managing projects from proposal stage to final reports, on time and on budget
  • Design and implement project/study work plans with a focus on terrestrial, avian, wetland and aquatic habitats
  • Coordinate and complete various environmental baseline surveys and/or assessments (water quality, wetlands, vegetation, habitat, wildlife, aquatic, and migratory birds)
  • Analyze, evaluate and interpret data while providing results within the scope and objective(s) of a the specific project
  • Prepare technical reports, permitting applications, environmental impact assessments and other associated documents
  • Provide technical expertise to WSP groups on issues associated with natural sciences
  • Promote health and safety in the workplace

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology or other relevant Natural Sciences Degree
  • Masters in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology or other relevant Natural Sciences Degree an asset
  • A minimum of 5 years’ demonstrated experience
  • Specialist in either ornithology, fisheries, and/or wetland fields an asset
  • Experience in analyzing and writing environmental survey reports, permit applications, and environmental impact assessments
  • Working knowledge of Federal and Provincial legislation
  • Excellent communication and written skills with a demonstrated ability to write detailed technical reports and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to function in a team environment with representatives from a wide array of disciplines is essential
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Have a firm knowledge in the usage of GPS and an understanding of GIS software
  • Bilingualism in English/French an asset
  • Valid Driver’s License
