POSITION DESCRIPTION

WSP  is currently seeking Archaeological Field Technicians to join our Environment group, located across the GTA.  Reporting to the department manager this position will be responsible to participate in Archaeological Survey works (Stage 2-4 archaeological investigations) across Ontario. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the supervision of an experienced Archaeological Field Director, the successful candidate(s) will be expected to participate in archaeological survey.
  • Assist with the implementation of archaeological survey projects and laboratory tasks;
  • Assist with public archaeology events;
  • Participate safely in a team environment; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-Secondary education completed or in progress with course work related to archaeology and/or history is an asset;
  • Minimum 4 months of archaeological field experience (or the successful completion of a recognized archaeological field school)
  • Willingness to comply with occupational health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Ability to perform rigorous physical activities under adverse weather conditions;
  • Willingness to stay out of town in hotels when project requires
  • Working knowledge of both pre-contact and post-contact archaeological resources and artifacts
  • Experience with artifact analyses, knowledge of Ontario’s cultural history, report writing, GIS or ArcGIS would be an asset;
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
