WSP is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our tenancy department, located at our Markham office. Reporting to the Manager of Tenant Fit Out this position will be responsible for mechanical engineering focusing on retail and commercial buildings (HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection). You will work in tenant fit-outs and small projects providing for HVAC selection and design, reconfigurations and calculations. The main focus will be on mid-size Retail projects. The incumbent will be involved in construction phase review, progress draw reviews, prepare change notice and quotation reviews, as well as attending design coordination meetings.


  • Strong knowledge of commercial systems, specializing in tenant fit-outs and small projects including: HVAC reconfigurations; simplified spreadsheet and HAP HVAC calculations; sound understanding of high-rise mechanical systems for tenant provisions; hydronic piping design; computer/LAN room A/C systems; plumbing and drainage; sprinkler and standpipe systems; Landlord requirements for Tenant Design
  • Recent strong experience with small projects (retail stores, restaurant/food service) including: appropriate HVAC system selection and design; unitary/locenvironmental control systems; duct design and layout; new plumbing and drainage system design; new sprinkler and standpipe system design
  • Must be able to complete the majority of project work independently, with final review and stamp by P.Eng
  • Understanding of ASHRAE 62 for ventilation requirements
  • Knowledge and proven experience with LEED Certification, will set you apart from your peer group
  • Enjoy a fast paced environment, proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet quick deadlines
  • Will complete all design work using AutoCAD.



  • Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, or eligible for registration
  • 4 to 7 years of mechanical engineering design experience
  • Good team player, coordination with other disciplines and client essential
  • Strong spoken and written technical skills; ability to communicate issues concisely
  • Must have strong knowledge and fluent in AutoCAD 2014 / 2017.
