WSP is currently seeking an Electrical Designer to join our successful Building Mechanical and Electrical Ottawa team.  Reporting to the Manager of M&E this position will be responsible for producing detail electrical design work on complex and exciting projects.



  • Perform analysis, design, and model of more complex electrical building systems and elements for various construction projects

  • Ensure that elements of design, modelling, and detailing adhere to relevant jurisdictional codes and coordinates elements with the architectural, mechanical, and structural engineering designs

  • Liaise with other engineering disciplines, architecture and interior design disciplines to exchange information. Assists with writing of design reports, comparison of systems, and in determination of system feasibilities

  • Perform fundamental engineering calculations to determine systems configuration and capacity

  • Conduct site surveys and field reviews to ensure accurate documentation of existing and new construction conditions

  • Provide guidance to junior engineers and technical staff assigned to a common task


  • Proficient in MS Office Applications, CAD software, including AutoCAD;

  • Proficiency with BIM / REVIT platforms is an asset
    Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate effectively with both internal and external clients.

  • 3-7 years electrical engineering and/or design experience

  • Ability to work in a complex environment driven by project deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Must have an in-dept understanding of quality standards relative to electrical design and planning, engineering fundamentals and principles. Must possess knowledge of Electrical Safety Code regulations

  • University or College graduate of an electrical engineering program.
