POSITION DESCRIPTION

WSP is currently seeking a Director, Human Resources to join our Human Resources department, located at our Montreal office.  Reporting to the Chief Human Resources and Safety Officer, Canada, this position will be responsible for delivering the activities of the Human Resources function which supports nationally the Mining, Power & Industrial Business Line and Corporate Services. The role works closely with business line and Corporate Services leaders to ensure HR programs and services are in place to support and drive business objectives. In this role the Director, Human Resources, along with two direct reports, leverages services from the Centers of Excellence in areas such as Talent Attraction, Global Mobility, Compensation and Benefits. We are seeking an individual with a solid HR business partner background and demonstrated change management experience who has experience managing a broad range of human resources initiatives and programs. The selected individual will be able to guide cultural change, build internal business partnerships, and provide coaching to develop others, challenge the status quo and offer creative solutions to business issues. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal and project management skills, have strong business acumen and previous experience in a large publicly traded organization, preferably in a professional services environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The incumbent will maintain a thorough understanding of business strategy and organizational plans and participate in the development of HR requirements to support and drive the business plans in the ongoing development of the Business Line and Corporate Service’s talent and culture. Understanding the business strategy and knowing what HR initiatives will actively support and drive successful implementation is an important driver of success in this role;
  • Focus on building a high performance, empowered culture by working with the HR Centers of Excellence along with the leaders in the respective corporate functions to ensure all HR practices and programs are in place and well understood;
  • The work of this role and the team varies from supporting the implementation of established Center of Excellence programs to defining and partnering with the Centers of Excellence to deliver HR solutions to overcome business challenges and enable strategy execution;
  • Coach business managers on issues of effective team building and organizational effectiveness;
  • Manage employee relations issues with an eye towards ensuring WSP remains an employer of choice;
  • Advise and facilitate people management, career development and training;
  • Develop and implement approaches and solutions which foster sound employee relations and engagement;
  • Measure and monitor key HR performance indicators;
  • Identify HR trends and issues including potential management options; and
  • Manage, guide, counsel and coach two HRBPs.
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • ​University degree or equivalent in a related field;
  • Fully bilingual in both spoken and written French and English;
  • Able to travel nationally across Canada, approximately once per month;
  • CRHA certification is an asset;
  • 12+ years of HR business partner experience, preferably in a large organization;
  • Knowledge of fundamental HR regulations and applications;
  • Demonstrated competence in the various HR functional areas: compensation, employee relations, management coaching, organizational development, diversity, benefits, employee communications and talent attraction;
  • Must be effective at influencing management and conflict resolution;
  • Capability, energy, experience, presence and outlook to quickly establish HR’s credibility with the management team;
  • Must have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Strong facilitation skills;
  • Strong system thinking and the ability to identify solutions and associated impacts across the organization;
  • Thrives in an unstructured environment and requires minimal supervision;
  • Experience in navigating efficiently through a matrix organization;
  • Ability and desire to embrace and manage and able to deal with ambiguity effectively;
  • Well-developed teambuilding and influencing skills, unquestioned integrity, and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address sensitive HR issues;
  • Sound judgment, business acumen and the ability to make a contribution to the business as a whole;
  • Informal roll up your sleeves and get it done leadership style that is people-centric, effective and marked by a high level of energy;
  • Proactive in developing and effectively introducing alternatives to current HR practices as appropriate;
  • Program and project management skills; and
  • Ability to operate in a positive, helpful and productive manner.
