POSITION DESCRIPTION

WSP is currently seeking a Hazardous Materials Specialist to join our Environmental Management department in our Gatineau and Ottawa offices. Reporting to the Director of Environment, the specialist will support projects related to designated substances (i.e. industrial hygiene, building decontamination, etc.) for our clients in industrial, commercial, government and private sectors. 


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implementing sampling strategies and to ensure scientific data collection (identification);
  • Conducting inspections and sampling of hazardous materials (i.e. asbestos, lead, mold, bacteria, etc.) using the IRSST and OSHA methods, in respect of provincial and federal standards and legislation for public properties, residential and commercial buildings, and industries;
  • Interpreting inspection findings and analysis results from sampled contaminants;
  • Write inspection and evaluation reports, make recommendations to effectively manage the contaminants;
  • Participate in the drafting of plans and specifications for demolition/deconstruction projects;
  • Site supervision and monitoring of the remediation works;
  • Participate to the workers exposure assessment;
  • Manage schedule, deliverables and the budgets of the projects or assigned tasks;
  • Respect the company’s quality standards;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 years of experience in hazardous material assessments or industrial hygiene, ideally in a fast-paced consulting environment;
  • A completed university degree in occupational hygiene, workplace safety, environmental science or engineering;
  • Knowledge and good command of sampling techniques ;
  • Member of a professional association is an asset;
  • Good knowledge of existing environmental legislation;
  • Strong report writing and verbal communication skills;
  • ASP Construction safety card an asset (for Québec).
