WSP is currently seeding an Intermediate Ecologist to join our Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment Team in Red Deer Alberta. Reporting to the Team Lead, the successful candidate will be provided the opportunity to work on challenging and diverse projects across Alberta with a wide range of complexity.


  • Conduct pre-development field assessments and prepare reporting for transportation, municipal infrastructure, renewable energy and oil and gas projects

  • Identification of potential environmental issues in relation to proposed developments (wetlands, watercourses, wildlife, vegetation, soils)

  • Provide environmental construction monitoring for a variety of projects

  • Analyze, evaluateand interpret data while providing results within the scope and objective(s) of the specific project

  • Interact with clients, staff and regulatory agencies

  • Mentor, coach and supervise junior project staff

  • Implement corporate and client safety programs

  • Other duties as assigned


  • Degree in Biology, Ecology or related field with a strong background in field ecology

  • 5+ years of experience working in a consulting firm in an Ecologist role or equivalent

  • Wetland classification/delineation experience under the Alberta Wetland Policy is a requirement

  • Experience working on transportation projects is an asset

  • ASPB or other registered professional association membership within Alberta is an asset

  • Excellent written and communication skills

  • A valid Alberta driver's license (min Class 5 with GDL removed)

  • The desire to succeed in a dynamic, progressive organization
