WSP is currently seeking a Professional Archaeologist to join our Environment business line, and to be located in Ottawa. Reporting to the National Archaeology and Heritage Lead, this position will be responsible for client relationship management, business development including proposal preparation and submittals as well as leadership of the field directors and field crews in the Archaeology and Heritage group. 


  • Lead proposal development, including the development of work plans, scope and budgets;
  • Building and maintaining client relationships;
  • Project management and direction for archaeological assessments in Ontario;
  • Stage 1 archaeological assessments in Ontario;
  • Oversee and supervise field crews during the performance of stage 2, 3 and 4 archaeological assessments;
  • Perform the work necessary for the position, which may include working in strenuous conditions in inclement weather;
  • Efficiently manage crews to perform work diligently and accurately;
  • Manage communications between field and office teams;
  • Eliminate barriers to successful work;
  • Other duties as required or assigned.


  • Master's degree in Archaeology or related discipline;
  • Professional class license issued by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport;
  • 10+ years of experience in Cultural Resource Management in Ontario;
  • Experience operating high precision GPS or total station equipment;
  • Experience managing field crews of 2-10+ people;
  • Firm understanding of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists;
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license;
  • Artifact identification skills for both First Nation and Euro-Canadian material;
  • Good business acumen together with strong client management skills is essential;
  • Experience writing archaeological assessment reports;
  • Artifact cataloging experience;
  • Safety oriented approach to archaeological field assessments.
