POSITION DESCRIPTION

WSP is currently seeking Summer Students to join our Geomatics department, located at our Fort St. John office.  Reporting to the Department Manager, Geomatics this position will be responsible for assisting Survey Party Chief in any and all aspects of field work including operations of survey equipment and vehicles. This position will be eligible for a May through August term.

The successful candidate will work in camp at times but also do some local work, so candidates will be responsible for finding suitable accommodations within Fort St. John.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operation technical survey instruments;

  • Maintain equipment and supplies;

  • Assist party chief with survey; and

  • Participate in WSP safety program.

  • Manage multiple priorities

  • Learn and excel through daily project work

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2nd or 3rd year student, or a recent graduate with a Bachelor's degree or diploma related to surveying or geomatics

  • Excellent academic record

  • Satisfy pre-employment requirements to demonstrate fit for duty, including drug screening;

  • A valid driver’s license and ability to provide clean driver’s abstract;

  • Summer Students must enjoy working outdoors and be able to work out of town in remote locations for extended periods of time;

  • Familiar with the operation of ATVs/UTVs, snowmobiles and chainsaws is considered an asset; and

  • Ability to quickly identify and understand project issues and opportunities

  • A team player who thrives on working with other successful, energetic people

  • Excellent communicator, with strong verbal, written, and presentation skills

  • Good initiative, attention to detail

  • Applicants should have reliable personal transportation to get to and from the office
