POSITION DESCRIPTION

WSP is currently seeking a Junior Environmental Engineer, Scientist or Technician to join our Environmental department, located at our Toronto (51 Constellaton Court) office.  Reporting to the Manager of the Environment group, the individual will be responsible for working both in the field and in the office on Phase One and Two Environmental Site Assessment (ESAs), as well as conducting risk assessments, and writing reports to deliver to clients. The incumbent will be responsible for completing a full range of environmental investigations ranging from preliminary site screenings, contaminant overview studies, Phase One and Two ESAs, designated substance and hazardous materials surveys.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ordering background documentation, conducting field investigations, analyzing and reviewing data and preparing reports to document findings;
  • Field investigations including soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water sampling, overseeing drilling or excavation contractors, surveying, coordinator of sample analysis with laboratories;
  • Hazardous materials and designated substances surveys;
  • Remediation oversight and environmental monitoring for impacts during construction;
  • Assist senior engineer and project managers as required;
  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or Diploma specializing in Environmental Science, Geosciences, Hydrogeology, Engineering or related discipline; A post-graduate degree or diploma in an environmental field will be considered an asset;
  • Experience completing environmental monitoring or investigations;
  • Knowledge and experience in field practices and site investigation and characterization techniques including environmental management principles and regulations in Ontario;
  • Strong organization skills and ability to schedule multiple tasks at various stages of projects, including field work and reporting;
  • Attention to detail, including documentation;
  • Eligibility for a designation as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) or professional Geoscientist (P. Geo) will be considered an asset;
  • Self-motivated and independent worker who is able to work in a team environment and take initiative in field work in a more autonomous setting while demonstrating the ability to advance in their career;
  • Logical thinking ability and the initiative to apply knowledge and suggest practical solutions to field challenges;
  • Willing to travel locally (GTA) for field work;
  • Occasional travel may be required to remote locations;
  • Must have reliable access to a vehicle with adequate insurance coverage as well as a full driver's license and clean driver's abstract.
